Halls of Torment
Should I be posting about this? The game isn't quite finished yet. I mean, it's getting pretty close but it's always a bit weird when the game you're talking about changes when people are reading later. Anyways.
Halls of Torment is one of many games that saw Vampire Survivors and got inspired. Which sounds like it's deravitive, but it's definitely staked out it's own space. It's also taking inspiration from Diablo, which even as someone who's never played the franchise I can see. Visually it's got that "we're using 3D for sprites cus we can't render it" sorta look, which definitely looks dated at his point - but in a purposeful way that gives it charm.
One way it distingishs itself is by having equipment. Initially you're just picking up any chests to get some bonuses during a game, but as you send more items back to base you can start really setting up builds to make more interesting runs. This also feels like a way it's emulating it's Diablo roots, using equipment to boost certain stats that are more important, or giving extra passives. These add onto a wide variety of base classes each with their own distinct attacks and abilities, giving a wide array of ways to play.
